A Perfect America

A Perfect Place
Imagine in a world where there is no issue, no fighting, no disease, no nothing. A place where you don’t have to worry about anything. A place where someone wouldn’t be afraid that one day someone is going to deport their family and leaving them all alone. A place where students wouldn’t be scared of going to school and not be shot. A place where continuing your education won’t cost them a fortune. A place where parents won’t be scared that their children will one day be an addict to drugs or be attacked at school. A place where child abuse and domestic violence doesn’t exist. A place where everyone is being treated equally and friendly despite their ethnicity or race. A place where food is healthy and natural that’s available to everyone. A place where everyone has a shelter, clothing, shoes, hygiene and any other things that essential for living in the world. A place where poverty does not exist. A place where money does not dominate the area. Currently, there’s a lot of issue in America, but if the significant issues such as immigration, poverty, and homelessness were to be solved then maybe one day, it could be possible to solve other problems that are happening in America by addressing it slowly and correctly.

immigration
According to an article called “The Facts on Immigration Today: 2017 Edition” by CAP Immigration Team and Michael Nicholson, a doctoral candidate in political science at the University of California, states that approximately 43.3 million immigrants live in the United States. From the 43.3 million immigrants, about 20.7 million are naturalized U.S. citizen, 13.1 million are residents, 11.1 million are unauthorized migrants, and 1.7 million hold temporary visas. That’s a lot of immigrants that’s in the United States, which is one of the reasons why some of the government wants them [unauthorized immigrants] to go back to their country. But why would they do that? In the same article that was mentioned above, immigrants have made a positive impact on the country’s economy. It was estimated that in 2016, immigrants added about two trillion to the U.S. GDP (Gross domestic product) in 2016! Also in 2010, the unauthorized immigrants paid $13 billion into Social Security and only received one billion dollars in services. Instead of deporting the hardworking immigrants, they [the government] should instead propose a plan that would help them [immigrants] towards a path to a permanent lawful residency. If the government were to do this than one of the issues would slowly be solved.

No poverty
The next significant issues that are currently happening in American is poverty and homelessness. Poverty is one of the keys that causes homelessness in this country. According to a journal called, "European Journal of Homelessness” by Marybeth Shinn, a Ph.D. professor at Vanderbilt University and served as President for the Society for Community Research and Action, it stated that “…higher levels of inequality and lower levels of social benefits are associated with higher rates of homelessness...” and “economic changes can also lead to homelessness.” There also has been evidence that poverty is the root of homelessness in the U.S., especially for those who have families. That being said, to decrease homelessness in America than those whose lives in poverty should be helped. How can we help them? By donating to a reliable organization, raising the minimum wage, creating more jobs, support equal pay, and increase the earned income tax credit.

Immigration, homelessness, and poverty are one of the significant issues that are happening in America. By solving these issues together and helping everyone, then it possible to get rid all of the problems that are happening here and create a better place.

  1. What a provocative opening! I like it--it draws attention to many readers concerns and fears in modern America, and it reminds readers like me that we don't all have the same ideas about what America has been, is, or even could be!
It makes a lot of sense that poverty is the root of homelessness; and addressing it would lead to a more equitable society. To address poverty in America, this country needs to address immigration, systemic racism and gender bias in employment, education access and parity across communities, food insecurity, etc. That might be one way toward a "more Utopian" America. I'd certainly call America great if that discussion was seriously addressed.

  2. I want to start by saying that I really enjoyed your graphics. I feel that they really connected with and impacted with your post as a whole. Even though I personally feel that the United States will never be a utopia no matter what steps to reach perfection are introduced, this was a great stance on the things that could make it so. A number of major issues within America can traced back to factors of poverty. The inability to provide for oneself can lead down a road of issues and resorting to illegal activities.
