Conservatism is the New Counter Culture
What is counter-culture? The definition of counter-culture is, "a way of life and set of attitudes opposed to or at variance with the prevailing social norm." Things that are 'counter-culture' are so often very attractive to Americans because, well, the very idea of America was counter-culture. At the time of the revolutionary war, the idea of independence was counter-culture.
Not only were the patriots of the Revolutionary War literally countering the culture which they were raised in, but they were also not the majority of the colonists. This is not because there were more loyalists, but most colonists were on the fence. Before the revolution, wanting and openly calling for independence from England was seen as treason to the crown. People guilty of treason were often captured, jailed, and killed.
However, despite this terrifying threat, estimates put it that by the time of the revolution, those who described themselves as loyalists were only 15-20 percent of all colonists.
This could help give some insight as to why people like things that are described as counter-culture. Obviously, people like things that are cool. What is cooler than rebelling, winning a war with miniscule odds of success, and creating one of - arguably the - greatest countries on Earth?
So, this being said, is conservatism the counter-culture? Of course it is.
The political left controls almost all of Hollywood, the vast majority of the media, and an overwhelming majority of academia. By definition, conservatives would be the counter-culture. This assertion is only backed up with polls of the younger generation (generation z) that identify overwhelmingly as Conservative, Republican, Pro-Trump, and things of the like.
This is happening because these kids are seeing that the left controls almost everything, certainly the majority of their mediums of entertainment, socializing, and schooling which they are involved with. Being told what to think, and that certain forms of opinion are any number of now-meaningless buzzwords, some people will naturally go out to listen to these 'bad opinions' for themselves.
The more taboo conservatism is made out to be, the more people will be drawn to it. So, dear media, Hollywood, and academia, by all means, keep lying about the political right. The more you do, the more people will join it. Because, conservatism is the new counter-culture.
