How is America Utopian?

Utopian is defined as a state that believes everything is perfect. America is known for becoming utopian. It is known as utopian because, of how America handles their county's unique diversity or cultures. Nisbet stated, America is unique among nations of Western society in its utopia-touched origins. Nisbet is a editorial at the production office in Los Angeles. America is becoming more open-minded about things that can make them utopia. They are open-minded about things such as: inter-racial marriages, other religions, and gay marriage.

Therefore, Jennings, stated no place on the globe has been more crowded with utopian longing and utopian experimentation than the United States in the middle of the 19th century. Jennings is a writer in California and has a book named "Paradise Now". America, was becoming crowded because everyone was thinking and believing that it was going to be a new and wonderful community. Also, in the 19th century utopians in America built their own version of the future. Utopians built their own version of the future because this is how they picture, religious reasons, and how they would like the world to become in the future.  During this time period, utopians were inspired and took the idea that small and planned communities might be ideal mechanism to remake the entire world. Yale university stated, though their inspirations varied-theocracy, millennialism, socialism theosopism, behaviorism-they all reflected the American dream of a better world, now. This made them, feel that this will be a people and famous future in the man-made paradise. These utopians made America a more utopian country.

After all, the 19th century is known as a golden age for American utopians. Utopian communities in America were known for creating a perfect human civilization. Utopians communities tried to make governments and wealth.  In the 1840s the utopian trials were marked. Many societies were in the United States such as: Brook farms, fruit-lands, and New Harmony. Utopian societies didn't like how society worked and had their own beliefs. This caused them to start their own perfect societies in different places or areas. Utopian communities were trying to achieve a perfect society they all agreed on. You can learn a lot from these groups listed above. The groups give historical information on how they are a utopian community. From reading these articles, I feel there is not a such thing of a perfect state or place.

  1. I appreciate the historical context here; America has always been a land of dreamers, and of course those immigrants who came here from Europe and Asia had wanted for a better life. Isn't it interesting that at the time they thought their dreams would come true here, America was using Slave labor (until the late 1860s) and often undocumented labor (even today!). So America has been a land for hopeful Utopia for many, but certainly that opportunity hasn't been equally realized for all. In your last paragraph you mention Brook Farms and New Harmony. How long did those civilizations last? Do we have modern Utopias with societies like the Amish or Mennonites? What can we learn from these groups?

  2. I can tell that you did a lot of research for this blog post. Other than a few grammatical and punctuation errors, I did find myself a little confused reading through this because of missing information. Such as when you state two last names with no context of who they are. Why should I trust this person in what he/she has to say if I have no background information in this post? That information should be hyperlinked to their name and also that information written in the sentence. I also feel like you should consider providing more context within these paragraphs so they flow better and the reader will understand better of the points you are trying to make.
