I actually found this topic of Amercian Culture to be quite interesting. Of course, I believe there are many topics out there that would be very interesting for upcoming blogger writers. One topic that I believe would make an interesting blog post is Citizen Journaling. We discussed it being a possibility for a topic in class. Citizens play an active role when it comes to sharing news and reports going on in our world. Especially with "fake news" being more prominent and many news articles/reports being questioned. I think it would be very interesting to see what different types of journaling students will come up with. Especially with what they are taught and how to academically analyze and write essays as well as finding academic and trustworthy sources, it would be interesting to look at their different perspectives surrounding the news and what they think citizen journalism should look like. I found an interesting article that talks about the different perspectives people have about citizen journaling and whether it is a trustworthy source to use and rely on.

Another topic that would be a stretch, but an interesting and fun topic to look at is Conspiracy theories. Conspiracy theories have become a huge part in mainstream media and while many of them are simply not true or hard to prove, there are many people who are dedicated and willing to believe some conspiracy and it would be intriguing to look at as to why many people believe in them and how they came to be. And it could also be used to analyze the theories academically and determine what part of the conspiracy theory make a factual accurate. There is an article that goes into depth about why people believe in conspiracy theories from a psychological point of view. There is also a very interesting Ted Talk by Micheal Shermer who is a debunker of all myths and theories that also goes into depth as to why people believe weird things.

I had to laugh when I read this because I could imagine a blending of the two many conspiracy theorists see themselves as citizen journalists, right? But seriously, these both are good ideas. I can see how one can talk about critical thinking and logic with either, and perhaps the citizen journalist post would spark career interest for some students?
