Suggestion for Next Blog Topic

During our first class discussion on the blog posts, there was a suggestion of the topic being about the environment. While ultimately we chose to focus on American culture, I do think that a class blog focused on environmental discussions would be very original and informative. Science and Math are grouped together in most incidents as English and History are. Crossing over scientific issues into creative writing would create an opportunity to write about loads of different environmental topics.

Climate Change is a popular environmental as well as social discussion. It can even be related to politics. The possibilities for anyone's take on our worldwide handling of climate change are endless. The "Earth Right Now" NASA blog is a great contributor to this conversation.

There could also be a post about our strategies to deal with waste and pollution. Air, land, and water pollution are things that we have been worried about since the day we were born and it just continues to get worse. What are some ways we could improve this? Are there any projects we should invest in to approach this issue? What are waste treatments like around the world and which places lack the resources to contain waste and pollution at all? Why? Should we do anything about the increases amount of earthly pollution or forget about it and let it be?

There are also immense new findings in the scientific field because of increases in technological ability. What kind of technology helps or hurts the environment?

Our human interactions with nature can also be a blog post topic. How do we compare in modern times to ancient humans and their interactions with the environment? As we learn more about nature and all that inhabits it, are we helping or hurting by interfering (man-made things like tracking collars, animal reserves, zoos, etc)?

I'm sure there is much more to be explored with this, so I believe it would be perfect for 6-8 posts. Here is a link to a page that connects to 15 popular environmental blogs.

    Thank you for these suggestions! I think writing on the environment is a definite option. I think people shy away from it at times because they're scared of either what they might find or recognizing that they don't lead a very environmentally healthy existence...

The Make of Car Doesn't Make The Man

There are many sub-cultures in America that are constantly being disputed, most common of which being gun culture. One not commonly spoken of is the car culture in America.  Photo  Credit Photo  Credit There are many different makes (brands) of vehicles, a few common  being Ford, Toyota, etc. The high performance built models of these different brands are grouped as either Muscle or Tuner cars. Muscle cars are cars from America, and include Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge. Tuner cars are cars that are generally from Japan, such as Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Mazda.  The two cars pictured above, to the untrained eye, are just two random cars. "Utopia": just an idea out of Sci-fi or truly possible?

The word "Utopian" is one that is rarely if ever used to describe today's society in the world and in America specifically. It is a word that is used to describe something out of an H.G wells book not the current day to day life that we have today. The true definition of "Utopia" is   " a place of ideal perfection especially in laws, government, and social conditions" .  While this conversation could turn into a rant of listing all the things wrong with America, I'll censor myself instead because complaining without looking for solutions will and never has done anything to make situations better.
