Technology: How It Can Be a Bit Excessive
Technology today plays an important role in society, especially in today's youth. In today's society and culture, technology has been inserted and prioritized. Cell phones today have evolved immensely than phones from the past. Today, cell phones serve a higher purpose than just calling. More forms of technology are being made to make lives easier, and if it continues then people will only rely on technology to perform basic tasks.
In an article published by BBC, it is stated that, "the more complex the global infrastructure needed to support the most basic tools and services in our lives, the more vulnerable it becomes to unexpected crises...and the more vulnerable we become alongside it." We become so reliant on new technology because we think that it saves us time and energy but all it does is cause more damage to us as a society. We rely so much on this technology that it essentially makes us helpless and panic when it goes out.
Many teenagers today own a cellular phone, many have become a bit too reliant on it as well. In a survey made by the Pew Research Center, 1,060 teenagers from ages 13-17 were surveyed and 73% said they have access to a smart phone. Since more cell phones are becoming a bit more affordable, more teens have access to them and it can be problematic. Many teenagers are using smartphones to help with homework, cheating on assignments, and to distract themselves during classes.
Technology can be reliable to a certain extent but it becomes too much when we take it for granted. Technology isn't meant to vacuum our floors make shopping lists, they are meant to further expand our thoughts and ideas and allow us to answer the unanswerable. Technology allows us to obtain the unobtainable, the problem is that our culture today has made it something it wasn't meant to be and we have become too dependent on it.
I definitely agree that we have become way too dependent on technology. Everywhere we go whether it’s at school, stores, event, or any other area you’ll see that most of the people there are using some type of technology such as a smart phone. Students using any type of technology during class can become distracted from their studies which may or may not cause them to fail an assignment or exam. Technology can disconnect people in America from social interaction. Technology is not just about the small such as a cell phone, but also the big things. These big things can be destructive, whether it’s for a good cause or not. This article https://vittana.org/12-pros-and-cons-of-technology goes into details about how technology can ruin us and our surrounding.
ReplyDeleteTechnology being prioritized if a very good way to describe the evolution of it, especially phones in today's society. It seems not having the newest model of the iPhone/Android may as well be the end of the world, as "older" phones don't possess the up-to-date apps and updates. I'm a victim of this myself, I have an iPhone 6S, however I feel like I need the newest one, the iPhone 8.
ReplyDelete"We rely so much on this technology that it essentially makes us helpless and panic when it goes out." I couldn't have said this better. This is extremely true, we rely on our gadgets for transportation, directions, and especially entertainment. Just a few days ago, Fortnight servers were down and I observed on Twitter that everyone was freaking out. It shouldn't be this way. Great post!
Unfortunately, this society has become extremely dependent on technology over the years. I watched a video where a father wanted to test the reaction of his son when he took his toys away. He started buy taking his spider man figures away and the boy didn't react at all. He wasn't effected at all. When he took the boys cellphone away he started screaming and crying. Of course, we could blame the father because, why does his three year old son have a cellphone when he can't even read or properly speak? We have taken advantage of what has been given to us as a society. Kids no longer want to play outside, or play with toys. Like you said teenagers use them for all the wrong reasons. I really liked this post, great job!
